Suunto Race 2

Wearables & trackers

Desk-researchedScored from aggregated public data and our own scorecard. We have not handled this unit.

The Race 2 keeps what made the Race our value pick (dual-band GPS, free offline maps, huge battery) and fixes its biggest flaw: wrist heart rate is much improved. The screen is larger and brighter and the case lighter, but it costs about 130 EUR more than the Race does now, and smart features stay basic.

Who it's for

Buy it if…

You want a big, bright multisport watch with maps, dual-band GPS and multi-day battery for well under a Forerunner 970, with wrist heart rate you can mostly trust.

Skip it if…

You want music or Garmin's ecosystem, or you're price-led: the original Race now does most of this for about 130 EUR less.

Suunto announced the Race 2 on 27 August 2025, from 499 EUR in steel and 599 EUR in titanium. It keeps the 49 mm format but moves to a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED at 2,000 nits, slims down to 12.5 mm and 76 g (65 g in titanium), and stretches dual-band GPS to up to 55 hours. Free offline maps, ZoneSense, climb guidance and new running metrics such as ground contact time and vertical oscillation are on board, and Suunto redesigned the case back and optical heart-rate system.

That last change matters most. TechRadar calls the heart-rate accuracy much improved and scored it 4/5 on value and 4.5/5 on design, features and performance; Tom’s Guide still saw a couple of runs that were well off and recommends a chest strap. Stiftung Warentest graded it 2,3 (gut). Smart features stay thin, and at around 449 EUR in Germany it now costs roughly 150 EUR more than the original Race.

Compared with our Suunto Race review, display, battery and training features move up, while value comes down.
