Who it's for

Buy it if…

You coach meditation, focus or sleep-recovery and want objective EEG/fNIRS biofeedback to guide clients.

Skip it if…

You want clinical-grade data, a subscription-free device, or a budget option.

The Muse S Athena is Interaxon’s current-gen brain-sensing headband (it supersedes the Muse S Gen 2), and its pitch is unique: it layers fNIRS blood-oxygenation sensing on top of EEG, so you get brain activity, breath, heart rate and movement in one all-night band. For a coach guiding meditation, focus or recovery work, that’s objective biofeedback you can actually program around — and independent testing puts its sleep tracking near 86% accuracy.

The catch is cost. At roughly €449 plus a ~€45/yr Muse Premium membership for the full library, it’s a serious commitment, and battery life (~10 hours) plus a fussy sensor fit temper the everyday experience. It’s a consumer wellness tool, not a medical device. One buying note for German readers: Muse’s own EU store lists it cheaper (€449.99) than the Amazon.de import (€493.45) — check both before you commit.
